Silliman archers train in Manila for SEA Games

Silliman archers Mark Javier, Jennifer Chan and Ian Wayne Larsen, along with SU Archery Coach Rowel Merto, left for Manila November 17 to train there in preparation for the upcoming Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games).

All archers in the line up for the Games will stay at the ULTRA Sports Complex for training and physical conditioning from November 17 up to December 5, 2007. They will train under Korean coach Choi Won Tae and Silliman head coach Rowel Merto.

The training includes cardiovascular training thrice a week, physical therapy twice a week, one hour of yoga every week and regular meetings with a team psychologist.

SU Church, Extension Program join hands to educate HIV/AIDS high-risk groups

Silliman University Church and the SU Extension Program (SUEP) worked together in conducting a five-day workshop for HIV/AIDS high risk groups from Dumaguete City. The workshop was held at the Marina Clinic in Dauin, Nov.l 12-16.

SUEP is coordinating the SU HIV/AIDS Prevention Project, whose aim is to educate high-risk groups, including prostitutes, call boys, drug addicts and out-of-school youth. Bread for the World, a German Church-based organization offering help to the poor around the world, provides financial assistance for the project. | more

SU celebrates International Students Week
Silliman celebrated International Students Week Nov. 12-17 with a cultural exhibit at the SU Main Library and the Mr. and Ms. Silliman International competition Nov. 17 at the Luce Auditorium.

Giants warm up for Intrams ‘07
On the court, the track, the field, Silliman University’s giant colleges, are gearing up for the Intrams this Nov. 27 to Dec. 2.

The Colleges of Nursing, Engineering, and Business Administration teams, since the start of the second semester, can be spotted practicing to make sure they are all ready for the tough competition for the trophy.

Rain or shine, school days or weekends, the players see to it that they don’t miss a day’s practice and the coaches set the minds of the players for the big event.| more
